Dehradun (Uttarakhand), February 05 (ANI): Pushkar Singh Dhami-led Uttarakhand government has taken big step to implement the Uniform Civil Code. In a landmark decision, the Uttarakhand cabinet approved a draft report related to UCC on February 04. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the UCC bill will be tabled in the upcoming Assembly session. The Uniform Civil Code proposes uniform civil laws for all communities in the state of Uttarakhand. If implemented, Uttarakhand will become the first Indian state to adopt UCC after independence. UCC will provide a legal framework for uniform marriage, divorce, land for all citizens, irrespective of their religion. The passage of UCC bill will mark fulfillment of a major poll promise made by BJP to the people of the state.
