Haridwar, the sacred city of the Kumbh Mela, welcomes millions of devotees who come to take a holy dip in the Ganga. It also marks the beginning of the revered Char Dham Yatra. In this spiritually significant city, two state-of-the-art sewage treatment plants (STPs) with a combined capacity of 82 MLD, developed under the Namami Gange Mission, are playing a pivotal role in preserving the purity of the Ganga. Haridwar now boasts a total sewage treatment capacity of 145 MLD, operating at peak efficiency. Among the key projects under Namami Gange are a 68 MLD STP in Jagjeetpur and a 14 MLD STP in the Sarai area. These advanced facilities are not only meeting present sewage treatment needs but are also future-ready to manage increasing loads from the city's expanding population. Undoubtedly, these modern and thoughtful initiatives under the Namami Gange Mission are proving to be milestones in keeping the Ganga river pollution-free. They also play a vital role in preserving Haridwar’s cultural, religious, and ecological significance. Let us all join hands to protect this sacred legacy and contribute towards realizing the dream of a clean and pristine Ganga.
