Gujarat’s Masali becomes India's first border solar village

Gujarat is setting new standards in renewable energy. Under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, Masali village in Banaskantha has become India’s first "border solar village." With 119 homes equipped with rooftop solar panels generating 225.5 kilowatts of electricity, the village is now self-sufficient, showcasing the transformative power of solar energy in driving sustainability and rural self-reliance. Masali, one of 17 villages under the Border Area Development Project, has been transformed into a solar-powered community through the efforts of the Revenue Department, Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited, banks, and solar companies. The ₹1.16 crore project, funded by subsidies, community contributions, and CSR support, showcases the impact of public-private partnerships in advancing sustainable development in border areas. Located 40 kilometers from the Pakistan border, Masali is India’s first border solar village, fully powered by solar energy. This milestone in India's renewable energy journey highlights sustainable development and community empowerment, showcasing the potential of solar power for a self-sufficient, brighter future in rural areas.
