Haridwar (Uttarakhand), November 04, (ANI): Preparations for the Ganga Utsav 2024, organized by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), are in full swing at Haridwar’s Chandi Ghat, where the event is scheduled to take place on November 4. NMCG holds this annual festival to commemorate the anniversary of the declaration of the Ganga as India's ‘National River.’ The primary goal of the festival is to promote Ganga conservation efforts, emphasize its cultural and spiritual significance, and increase public awareness regarding river cleanliness. This year marks the eighth edition of Ganga Utsav and the first time it will be celebrated along the riverbank itself. The festival will also see participation from district Ganga committees across 139 districts within the Ganga basin states, each organizing their own district-level events. Additionally, each state in the Ganga basin will host a central program to contribute to the celebration. The event will be led by Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Mr. C.R. Patil, and will feature a grand inauguration ceremony attended by several distinguished guests. Director General of NMCG, Rajeev Kumar Mital, has expressed his enthusiasm for the event, emphasizing its role in spreading awareness and mobilizing efforts for Ganga conservation across the country.
