Srinagar, Sept 10 (ANI): Zaffar Habib Dar, a former activist of the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, recently transitioned into mainstream politics. He is now contesting from the Central Shalteng Assembly constituency as an Apni Party Candidate. He hails from Srinagar’s Zainakote and had to drop out of school due to financial difficulties. During the land agitation row in 2008, he took part in pro-freedom processions headed by Tehreek-e-Hurriyat led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani. He got arrested under the Public Safety Act (PSA) which resulted his family had to faced a lot of problems. After releasing, he decided to join in mainstream politics and joined the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party led by Altaf Bukhari. Known for his previous role in the separatist movement, Dar’s shift to a more conventional platform marks a significant change in his career. His candidacy reflects a broader trend of former separatist leaders seeking to influence mainstream governance and contribute to the political discourse from within established institutions. He aims to address local issues and represent his constituency’s needs. His campaign is likely to attract the attention of people, given his unique background and the evolving political landscape of the region.
