Anantnag (J&K), March 1 (ANI): Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed fresh snowfall today, covering the entire region in a thick blanket of snow. The heavy snowfall has created a picturesque winter landscape but has also caused a sharp drop in temperatures, making life challenging for residents. As the mercury plummets, people in the region are relying on traditional methods to keep warm. The 'kangri' — an earthen pot encased in a wicker basket with a handle, filled with hot embers — has become an essential item for many in the district. Locals use the Kangri by carrying it close to their bodies, providing much-needed warmth in the cold weather. The snowfall, which started early this morning, has disrupted normal life in several areas, with roads leading to remote villages becoming difficult to navigate. However, the snowfall is also being welcomed by many in the region, as it is expected to boost the local economy by aiding the winter tourism sector and replenishing water resources. Despite the beauty of the snow, the harsh weather conditions have led to concerns about heating, transport, and power supply. Authorities are working to clear the roads and restore electricity to affected areas, while residents continue to rely on traditional ways to stay warm amidst the cold. With temperatures continuing to dip, people are bracing for more snowfall in the coming days.
