Baramulla (J&K), September 18 (ANI): The Government Medical College in Baramulla added another feather to its cap after setting up a free-of-charge dialysis centre. Since its inception, the Dialysis Center in Baramulla has conducted more than 15,306 dialysis sessions. The project is part of the Prime Minister’s National Dialysis Programme, which was initiated in 2016, but in J&K, it started in 2018 and has brought relief to the patients who live in far-off areas of North Kashmir. The dialysis centre sees a steady influx of people each day. Speaking to ANI, a senior doctor at the dialysis center said, "We follow the protocol of international standards, and it is mostly beneficial to poor patients. Here, we get patients from far-off places in north Kashmir. Earlier, they had to spend around 12,000 rupees for one time; the expenses have largely come down which has overall benefits." One of the patients told ANI, "I used to go to Srinagar first, but then the doctor suggested I visit Baramulla, and here I get every facility at less expense, and the treatment is also better." Shafguta Jan, the daughter of a patient, stated that we get free medicines, and if something’s unavailable, they arrange it for us. The facilities have substantially improved, we would like to thank the government for this initiative."
