New Delhi, March 31 (ANI): PM Narendra Modi lashed out against Congress for giving away Katchatheevu island to Sri Lanka. He took to X and accused Congress and former PM Indira Gandhi of “callously” letting go Katchatheevu in Sri Lanka’s favour. Politics erupted over PM Modi’s post and Congress alleged him of diverting from real issues. On the other hand, Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai blamed Congress and DMK of giving the island to Sri Lanka. The island, located between Rameswaram (India) and Sri Lanka, was traditionally used by both Sri Lankan and Indian fishermen. In 1974, then PM Indira Gandhi accepted Katchatheevu as Sri Lankan territory under the “Indo-Sri Lankan Maritime agreement”. In Lok Sabha also, PM Modi had accused former PM Indira Gandhi of giving away Katchatheevu to neighbouring Sri Lanka.
