Guwahati [Assam], April 08, 2025 (ANI): A seminar in Guwahati, titled "Ensuring Water Security, Ecological Integrity, and Disaster Resilience in the Sub-Himalayan Region," organized by the Asian Confluence, raised concerns about China’s approval of the world’s largest hydropower project on the Brahmaputra River. Experts highlighted the potential risks to water security, ecological balance, and disaster resilience in Northeast India, particularly in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. The Brahmaputra, known as the Siang in Arunachal Pradesh, flows from Tibet into India, joined by key tributaries in Assam before reaching the Bay of Bengal via Bangladesh. Despite its regional names, the river is crucial for both ecology and geopolitics, with growing concerns over China’s actions underscoring its strategic importance for regional stability.
