Gandhinagar (Gujarat), March 14 (ANI): An Ahmedabad resident, Dimple Varandani and others who have migrated to India, met Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi in Gandhinagar. They praised the BJP-led central government on implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act and said, "We waited for this day for so long.." Dimple Varandani, who runs an NGO also recounted how it was a struggle to get citizenship. "I run an NGO, which works for refugees from Pakistan and Bangladesh. I am myself from Pakistan. I migrated in 1990 from Pakistan to India along with my parents. Everybody is aware of the kind of pain and problems Hindu girls go through in Pakistan...Not merely girls, but, Hindu students who go to school face the same...I stay in Gujarat, which is best as it is the state of PM Modi...In 1990, I migrated with my parents, and in 2016, I got citizenship. My husband and two daughters are also Indian. It took 26 years to get citizenship in Congress incumbency. From 2004 to 2014, I applied for citizenship three times, despite all the documents, they kept pointing, and later rejected my citizenship three times even though I never visited Pakistan in 26 years...In a way, we were treated after coming to India, ended post PM Modi voted to power in 2014... In 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave power to the district collectors, which led to the approvals of files at the district level, hence, the time duration for applying for citizenship has now been reduced to 6 months...,"said Dimple Varandani.
