Birgunj (Nepal), Oct 28 (ANI): Nepal on Tuesday wrapped up the four-day-long Chhath festival, a celebration devoted to offering prayers and gratitude to the rising sun. The festival, which commenced last Saturday, culminated with the main pooja on the final evening and concluded this morning with the customary Argha offerings at rivers and ponds across the nation. Thousands of Hindu devotees gathered at Ghadiarwa Pokhari in Birgunj,—near the Indian state of Bihar—immersing themselves in the sacred waters to mark the festival’s conclusion. Chhath was observed with great splendor across the Mithila region, including the districts of Mahottari, Dhanusha, Siraha, and Saptari, as well as in several other parts of Nepal. Devotees gathered along the banks of ponds, lakes, and streams to perform sacred rituals that embody the festival’s essence—truth, non-violence, and compassion for all living beings. Central to Chhath is the worship of the rising and setting Sun, considered a distinctive and deeply devotional act of reverence to the Sun God. Devotees observe a strict fast and offer prayers to the Sun God, seeking the long life and well-being of their family members, as well as the fulfillment of their wishes and endeavors.
