New Delhi, January 06 (ANI): “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” chants echoed on the cargo ship MV Lila Norfolk which was hijacked near the coast of Somalia. The Indian Navy was quick to respond and rescued all the crew members onboard including 15 Indians. Assessing the situation in no time, INS Chennai warship was moved towards the hijacked cargo vessel on Jan 05. Also, continuous aerial recce of MV Lila Norfolk was undertaken by MQ9B (Sea Guardian), P8I and integral helicopters. The Indian Navy’s elite commando unit MARCOS reached the vessel and initiated its “sanitisation” process. The rescued crew members thanked the Indian Navy for a quick and timely assistance. “The Indian Navy Marine Commandos boarded MV Lila Norfolk and undertook thorough sanitisation of the upper decks, machinery compartments and living spaces. The team did not find any pirates onboard. Forceful warnings by the Indian Naval aircraft to the vessel and likely interception by IN warship, probably compelled the pirates to escape during the night hours. All 21 crew of MV Lila Norfolk have been rescued and are safe,” Indian Navy officials stated. Indian Navy officials further informed that the crew of MV was currently engaged in restoring propulsion, power supply and steering gear. The Indian Navy has increased its surveillance of the Arabian Sea after a recent spate of attacks in the region. This time also, a strong counter-offensive was carried out without wasting any time and the Navy charged all required assets to thwart the pirates.
