Agitated Georgians on streets, Parliament on fire, after Govt calls off talks to join European Union

Tbilisi (Georgia) December 01 (ANI): Demonstrations continued in the Georgian capital Tbilisi late on November 30 in protest against the government. The angry protestors demonstrated after the Government called off talks to join the European Union. Protesters built barricades and set off fireworks outside Parliament, some in the direction of riot police. A small portion of the parliament caught fire possibly caused by the fireworks outside the building. Security forces responded by firing water cannons and teargas into the crowds and dismantling the barricades. Scenes from the protest also showed at least one protester being detained by the police during the massive demonstration. The protest was by far the biggest since the increasingly anti-Western ruling party was re-elected last month in a vote the pro-EU opposition says was rigged.
