New Delhi, Jun 20 (ANI): A recent study suggests that binge drinking during adolescence may have long-lasting effects on the brain, directly impacting first-generation offspring. A rat focused model found that the preconceptions that binge drinking may have negative consequences on the offspring's growth, social interactions, and pubertal development could after all have some truth to them. Researchers found that a rat model of binge-pattern drinking during puberty had several consequences for the animals' offspring, including smaller body weight, fewer play behaviors, and decreased circulating testosterone. The parents also did not pass down to the offspring any adaptive traits that allowed them to tolerate alcohol better.
