Communist Party of India (CPI) Rajya Sabha MP Binoy Viswam wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urging him to intervene in the matter of Nimisha Priya, a nurse from Kerala, who is currently facing the threat of execution in Yemen.
India is extending whatever consular assistance possible to the Indian national who has been sentenced to death in Yemen and her mercy plea was rejected by the apex court in Sanaa, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Severe Cyclonic Storm 'TEJ' over coastal Yemen weakened into cyclonic storm at 1130 IST on October 24, the MeT Department stated on Tuesday that it will move further west-northwestwards and weaken into a depression during next six hours.
"Very Severe Cyclonic Storm "Tej" (pronounced as Tej) Crossed Yemen's coast and weakened into a severe cyclonic storm over coastal Yemen," IMD said in a post 'X'.
"The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm 'Tej' over west central & adjoining southwest Arabian intensified into an Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm," the IMD said on X (formerly Twitter).
Cyclone 'Tej' brewing over the South-West of the Arabian Sea is very likely to move North-West and cross the Yemen coast close to Al Ghaidah around the early morning of October 24, the India Meteorological Department has said on Sunday.
The weather agency said that the cylone will cross over the Yemen-Oman coasts between Al Ghaidah (Yemen) and Salalah (Oman) around the early hours of October 25.
Cyclone 'Tej', brewing over the Arabian Sea, is expected to transform into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS) before noon on Sunday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
