Delhi's Patiala House Court on Wednesday deferred the order on the cancellation report filed by the Delhi Police in a POCSO case against the outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chairman and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
“Its report needs to be junked as there was not clear finding, and it was not constituted according to the rule of POSH Act,” the counsel for the wrestlers Rebecca John argued on the point of charges in the sexual harassment case against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Singh on Saturday blamed wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik for suspension of the federation ahead of big events like the Asian Games, World Wrestling Championships and 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Rouse Avenue court on Saturday heard the arguments of senior counsel for six women wrestlers who alleged that they were sexually harassed by the then WFI Chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. He allegedly touched their breast on the pretext of checking their breathing pattern, a
"This is the first time in India's history that the United World Wrestling (UWW) has suspended the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). This is a huge blow for the country. We pray for the country to recover from this at the earliest," Brij Bhushan said on UWW's decision.
"When you talk about suspension of WFI, we have to note that the Asian Games and World Championships are round the corner. Even if our wrestlers win there, our country will suffer because the quota will go to some other nation. It will be a huge loss," he said.
