Retail inflation in India further eased sharply in May to 4.25 per cent, hitting a two-year low. It was at 4.7 per cent in April and 5.7 per cent the previous month.
Wholesale inflation in India based on the Wholesale Price Index turned negative in April at (-) 0.92 per cent, official data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry showed.
According to the statement released on April 17, the fall in prices of basic metals, food products, textiles, non-food articles, minerals, rubber and plastic products, crude petroleum & natural gas and paper and paper products contributed to the decline in the rate of inflation in March.

Key indices BSE Sensex went up 600 points and settled at 61,032.26 while NSE Nifty surged 157 points to 17,928.10. According to NSE data, The Nifty IT index rose 0.99 per cent to 30,588.75. The index had fallen 2.26 per cent in the past two sessions.
At 9.19 am, BSE 30-share Sensex declined 79.17 points to 62,574.36 while broad-based Nifty also lost 27 points and was at 16,633.20 level. The majority of the key indices across the world's stock exchanges were trading in the losses during morning trade.
