Silver medalists were Amarjit Guru (men's 89kg), Harshad Wadekar (men's 96kg), and Harcharan Singh (102kg). To round off India's day in the weightlifting competition, Jagdish Vishwakarma earned bronze in the men's 96kg category at the Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida.
Ajith, India's current national champion topped the charts in 73 kg category while Ajay also defended his 81 kg title in men's competition. Harjinder secured second position in the women's 71 kg category.
This will be Chanu's second competition this year. The 28-year-old lifter from Manipur had undergone five-month rehab followig a hip surgery last year in December. She managed to compete in May's Asian Championships, but could manage only sixth position.
Chanu will take part in the women’s 49kg category. While, Bindyarani Devi, the 2021 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships gold medal winner, will be compete in the women’s 55kg event.
Over 250 weightlifters from 20 countries are competing at the event across junior, youth and senior categories. The championships will conclude on July 16
The state-level tournament saw over 200 talented weightlifters from 10 districts and 20 weightlifting clubs across Odisha showcase their skills and compete for supremacy.
