JD(U) leader Anjum Ara on Saturday said that her party supported the Waqf (Amendment) Bill only after its suggestions were accepted. Her explanation came amid the resignations in the party after its MPs voted in favour of the Bill in both the Houses of the Parliament.

All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board has expressed its support for the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which has been passed by Parliament, and urged the government to bring transparency in the working of Waqf board and ensure rights to women.
"It was a one-sided act, which has been misused by a few people. If the properties (of Waqf) are better used, it would help the poor Muslims. Now, with the new bill, which will become an Act, all the previous grievances will be resolved," Khattar told ANI.
"Now, no one can rob lands in the name of the Waqf Board... Public property and revenue lands will now be used to build schools, colleges, hospitals, or housing for the poor," Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said.
Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Saturday voiced alarm over the Waqf Amendment Bill, warning that it establishes a dangerous precedent beyond its immediate impact on Muslims.
"We are the opposition. If we ever see that the government is not doing justice and doing something with the intention of division and hatred, then we will stage protests. If a law has been made, then we have only one way: going to the Supreme Court. And we have done that..." Dikshit told AN
