As polling began for the Meghalaya Assembly on Monday, the first five voters received mementoes in a bid to encourage robust turnout and voting in the early hours.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday has lauded all those involved in monumental effort by the Election Commission of India to ensure every eligible voter can vote with ease in Meghalaya, said a press release by Prime Minister's Office.
Polling will be held at 3,419 polling stations across 59 Assembly constituencies in the state. The voting will begin at 7 am and continue till 4 pm, on Monday. Of the 60 Assembly constituencies in Meghalaya, 36 fall in Khasi, Jaintia Hills region while 24 are in Garo Hills region.
As per the option exercised under Form 12 D, District teams were deployed to arrange home voting for senior citizens above 80 and people with disabilities through postal ballots.
