The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday decided to postpone the NEET (UG) examinations to be held in centres in violence-hit Manipur on Sunday till a later date.
Amid the violence in Manipur, the National People's Party-led Meghalaya government on Saturday held a meeting to review the status of the ongoing evacuation process of its students from the violence-hit State.
Following the violence in Manipur, the Indian army and Assam Rifles have so far evacuated more than 16,000 people from the violence-hit areas of the North Eastern state.
Several State governments, including those in the country's northeastern part, are working on plans to evacuate their citizens out of the violence-hit Manipur.
Army, Assam Rifles and Air Force along with civil administration have worked tirelessly in the past approximately 48 hours to restore law and order and bring back normalcy in Manipur, an official statement said on Friday.
"Around 150 students of Tripura are there. We are contacting them. I've called a meeting today. We are also in touch with the guardians. We've also started helpline numbers. I can say that the students are safe," Tripura CM said.
As Indian Army and the Assam Rifles continue their efforts to evacuate and provide assistance to affected people in violence-hit Manipur, locals praised the efforts of security forces and thanked them for providing a "security blanket".
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha spoke to his Manipur counterpart N Biren Singh over the phone on Friday and inquired about the situation in the violence-hit state.
AIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam said that the BJP-led Manipur government and the Union Home Ministry totally failed to maintain the law and order situation in Manipur.
"The district administration has made all arrangements for the people who come from Manipur and entered the district," Numal Mahatta, Superintendent of Police (SP), Cachar district told ANI.
Violence broke out on May 3 during the 'Tribal Solidarity March' called by the All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) in the Torbung area of Churachandpur district to protest the demand by Meiteis, who dominate the Imphal Valley, for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
According to the sources, Shah will closely monitor the developments in the state and is also likely to hold multiple meetings with the Manipur government.
