During a press briefing on Friday, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated, "We are concerned by the departure of Canadian diplomats from India in response to the Indian government's demand of Canada to significantly reduce its diplomatic presence in India."
Canada had accused India of violating the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations Foreign Minister Melanie Joly on Thursday that Canada has removed 41 diplomats and their 42 dependants from India amid the ongoing row between the two countries.
In a major development, the Afghan Embassy in India, announced the closure of its operations citing “lack of resources” and “failure to meet Afghanistan’s interests” by the Taliban regime.
"We take our obligations of Vienna convention very seriously. We will be certainly providing all security to foreign diplomats in India. We also expect Canadian authorities to show similar sensitivity to our diplomats in Canada," Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi sa
Canadian foreign minister Melaine Joly said that her country takes its obligations under the Vienna Conventions regarding the safety of diplomats very seriously. She also said that the actions of a few people do not speak for the entire community.
