This interim order came when the Court was considering the writ petitions filed by seven vice-chancellors against the show cause notice issued by the chancellor. They sought to cancel the notice and contended that it is illegal.
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan made the appointment of Professor Dr Ciza Thomas, who is the senior joint director of the Directorate of Technical Education. This is additional to her normal duties till further orders.
Seven Vice Chancellors approached the High Court against the show-cause notice issued by the Kerala Governor who is also the Chancellor of Universities. They sought to cancel the notice and contended that it is illegal.
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan said that he would reign if the CM showed one example of political interference by him in the appointments of the Vice-Chancellor.
The court will consider their plea on Wednesday. The VCs are demanding the cancellation of the show cause notice, in the plea. None of the VCs has responded to the show-cause notice of the Chancellor (Governor) so far. The deadline to reply to the notice is 5 pm on November 3rd.
After Kerala university failed to nominate anyone for the selection committee to appoint a Vice-Chancellor, High Court criticized the university and asked, "how can a university function without a Vice-Chancellor?"
Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) on Tuesday staged a protest march against the Governor of the state Arif Mohammad Khan over his orders demanding the resignation of the vice-chancellors of nine universities in the state.
The court also made it clear that the petitioners will be eligible to continue in their positions however in full compliance with law and regulations till such time the Chancellor issues a final order.
