Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will hold a high-level meeting in Dehradun on Friday evening in the wake of the land subsidence at Joshimath in Chamoli district, sources said.
Chamoli district administration on Thursday asked Hindustan Construction Company Ltd. (HCC) and National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd. (NTPC) to be prepared to shelter the disaster-hit families, migrating from the landslide region of Uttarakhand's Joshimath.
All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday appreciated the Supreme Court ruling that stayed the demolition of encroachments in Uttarakhand's Haldwani and said that "regularisation" is the only solution to the issue.
"There cannot be uprooting of 50,000 people overnight," said the bench, adding that there has to be segregation of people who have no right on the land and the need for rehabilitation while recognising the need for railways.
"We've said earlier also that it is a railway land. We will proceed as per the court's order," said Dhami today reacting to apex court's putting a stay on the High Court's order to remove encroachments from railway land in Haldwani's Banbhoolpura area.

The Uttarakhand government has formed a team of scientists to find out the reason behind the occurrence of land subsidence in Joshimath and the resultant damage reported to the houses.

Following directions of the High Court to remove the encroachments near Haldwani railway station, the local administration has started taking advance action by closing the pillars of the area under encroachment.
Illegal occupants on encroachments near the railway station in Haldwani's Banbhoolpura will be removed in coming days as per the order of the Honourable Supreme Court, said Nainital District Magistrate Dhiraj Singh Garbiyal on Wednesday.
