As the water level of the river reached the Triveni Ghat Aarti Sthal, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) issued an alert for travellers and warned them to avoid staying at the ghats at night.
Although no one was hurt, the collapse caused rainwater to flood the house, trapping the family inside. A team from the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) was called in to rescue the family and shift them to a safe location.
A woman died and three others were said to be seriously injured when the car they were travelling in crashed near a petrol pump in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, officials said on Sunday. The woman died on the spot.
"Heavy to very heavy rainfall at many places, with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places, is likely to occur in districts of the Kumaon region. Heavy rains have also been forecast in Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Pauri districts of Uttarakhand," said the weather department.
