US Marine CH-53E 'Super Stallion' made its maiden landing at Naval Air Station at INS Dega, Visakhapatnam. As part of the ongoing India-US joint exercise 'Exercise tiger Triumph', informed a press release on Friday.
Following the Exercise Tiger Triumph, the Surface Warfare Officer on the USS Somerset, Brnjic, expressed their happiness to spend time in Visakhapatnam with Indian Navy personnel, adding that they learned a lot from them.
As part of the Exercise Tiger Triumph, Indian Army, US Marines and US Army National Guard train together for joint sub-conventional operations in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief scenario.
The bilateral tri-service Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) amphibious exercise between India and US, 'Tiger Triumph' commenced on Tuesday with the opening ceremony held onboard INS Jalashwa.
US Central Command on Thursday said it conducted two-self-defence strikes targeting six mobile anti-ship cruise missiles, that were prepared to launch towards the Red Sea. It also shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over the southern Red Sea in self-defence.
According to US Central Command, the forces identified these unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) originating from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen and determined that they posed an imminent threat to merchant vessels and to the US Navy and coalition ships in the region.
It said that these actions are taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for US Navy and merchant vessels.
Fleet Master Chief of the US Navy, David Isom, emphasised that India will play a very important role going forward in partnership with the US and all of its other partners and allies.
The US Central Command forces located and destroyed a surface-to-air missile launcher in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen at approximately 5 pm on February 19.
In the latest attack, the Iranian-backed Houthi militants fired two missiles from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen towards the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated.
