The annual report of the United Nations Security Council should inform, highlight and analyse the measures taken to maintain international peace and security, but today the debate on the report has become a "ritual without much substance," India said at the UN General Assembly.

In the vote 12-1, the one being the US veto and two abstentions, the UNSC did not adopt a draft resolution that would have recommended the General Assembly to hold a vote with the broader UN membership to allow Palestine to join as a full UN Member State.
The United States will vote against a United Nations Security Council resolution for Palestinian statehood in the UN, US State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said at a press briefing on Thursday.
In its manifesto, the BJP stated, "We are committed to seeking permanent membership in the UN Security Council to elevate Bharat's position in global decision making."
