Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hit out at Opposition parties for "vote bank politics" and their "policy of appeasement" and said that those who are supporting triple talaq are doing grave injustice to Muslim women.
Batting for uniformity of law in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the country cannot be run with "two laws" when the Constitution of India talks about equality for all.
Reacting to the opposition parties criticising the Law Commission for seeking the opinions of the public and religious bodies on a UCC last week, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla slammed them for opposing the implementation of UCC.
Uniform Civil Code is part of the Directive Principles of our Constitution, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Monday questioning why dispute across the country is going on over this topic while it is already implemented in several States.
CM Dhami said, "The country needs a Uniform Civil Code. It has always been the expectation of the people across the country that it should be implemented."
"Religious leaders should run Mutts, conduct worship and perform yagnas, they are creating a lot of ruckus in the country by infiltrating into politics," the BRS leader said.
The Committee, headed by former Supreme Court judge, Justice (retired) Ranjana Prakash Desai, was formed to examine ways for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
During the meeting, UCC President Ranjana Prakash Desai shared information about the work done so far in Uttarakhand in relation to the UCC, with the Chairman of the National Law Commission.
The implementation of a Uniform Civil Code was one of the prime promises made by the BJP during the last assembly elections in the hill state. And days after coming to power Dhami formed the five-member committee for UCC.
"BJP can't implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the country and BJP also knows it very well. But they (BJP) are talking about it only for vote bank politics," Rafiqul Islam said.
