Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay on Saturday began his statewide electoral campaign for the 2026 state elections in the Tiruchirappalli district of Tamil Nadu.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam President Vijay will embark on a statewide tour starting tomorrow (September 13, 2025), covering all districts and holding a series of people's meetings, the party announced on Friday.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President Vijay has been granted permission to address a gathering at the Marakkadai area of Tiruchirappalli (also known as Trichy) district of Tamil Nadu, but with 23 strict conditions imposed by City Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sibiin.
The complainant alleged that Vijay's bouncers mishandled him, and a case has been registered against the TVK chief and his bouncers under three sections.
"It has become abundantly clear that Actor Vijay is operating as a political actor, mimicking Naam Tamilar Party leader Seeman (Sebastian Simon), devoid of principles or ideology, solely for electoral gains and vote-bank politics," Prasad said in a statement.
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader TKS Elangovan on Thursday reacted sharply to actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay's statements that the DMK was in a "secret alliance" with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and called the actor-turned-politician "ignorant of politics".
All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday took a veiled dig at Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay, asserting that AIADMK is the only party capable of defeating the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in the state.
"The way he was talking shows that the BJP is becoming strong. He portrays himself as a lion. He only revealed his empty speech today. He spoke about fishermen and minorities. Our PM talks about 'sabka saath, sabka vikas', and doesn't leave the minorities," the BJP leader told ANI.
While addressing a mega rally in Tamil Nadu's Madurai, Vijay said that the contest in the 2026 assembly elections would be between the ruling DMK and his party, TVK.
Vijay intends to present his party, TVK, as a third front in Tamil Nadu politics, an alternative to both the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the opposition All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
