Member of the National Disaster Management Authority, Lt General (Rtd) Syed Ata Hasnain on Wednesday said that the rescue operation which is underway at Uttarkashi's Silkyara tunnel where 41 workers remain trapped is like a "war" and no such specific timelines should be assumed by anyone.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday wished for the safety of 41 workers trapped in Uttarakhand's Silkyara tunnel and urged the Government to provide proper compensation to them.
Speaking to ANI, the Uttarkashi DM said that only a little work has been left to the completion of the rescue operation which has been ongoing for the last 12 days.
"NDRF is ready for all the consequences that we may have to face. Special equipment is also ready so that we can take the trapped workers out as early as possible. Our teams are ready, and I hope we will be able to rescue the workers soon," NDRF DG Atul Karwal told ANI.
While speaking to the reporters here, he said that the efforts are being made to move 6 metres ahead of the 45-metre mark that has already been reached.
The 41 workers have been trapped since November 12, when the under-construction tunnel from Silkyara to Barkot got blocked due to debris falling in a 60-meter stretch on the Silkyara side.
International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association president Arnold Dix, who has been roped in as part of the ongoing rescue efforts in Uttarkashi tunnel collapse site, on Tuesday said he was absolutely sure that the 41 trapped workers will come home soon.
