India's ace shuttler Sindhu suffered a defeat against world No. 3 Carolina Marin 21-13, 11-21, 20-22 after a three-game nail-biter of one hour and eight minutes.
Sindhu earned her spot in the pre-quarters by defeating world No. 21 Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt of Denmark 21-12, 22-20. Following the first-round victory in 44 minutes, Sindhu will face former Olympic champion and rival Carolina Marin of Spain in the second round.
Sindhu put up a fight against South Korea's world number 34 shuttler Sim Yu Jin her second-round match. She beat her 21-13, 12-21 and 21-14 in a match that lasted for 59 minutes.
The Indian shuttlers clinched a comfortable win defeating the American pair of Annie Xu and Kerry Xu 21-15, 21-12 in the round of 32. The game lasted for 39 minutes.
PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen will be spearheading the Indian challenge at the Swiss Open 2024 badminton tournament. The BWF Super 300 event will commence at the St Jakobshalle arena in Basel, Switzerland on Tuesday.
