Amid a record increase in COVID-19 infections in China, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that the US would require a negative COVID-19 test from all travellers arriving in the country from China as well as those from Hong Kong and Macau, reported ABC News.
Australian Health Minister Mark Butler said the nation has decided to follow the position of countries across Asia, North America and Europe to introduce measures amid the "absence of comprehensive information about the situation in China".
The Canadian government announced that this new requirement will come into effect on January 5, at which point travellers aged two and older will need to provide proof of a negative test before leaving for Canada.
"China has always been publishing information on COVID-19 deaths and severe cases in the spirit of openness and transparency," Jiao Yahui, head of the Bureau of Medical Administration under the National Health Commission, said at a press briefing held on Thursday.
