The drilling work at Uttarkashi's Silkyara tunnel to evacuate 41 trapped workers was halted again on Thursday night after the auger machine encountered a technical snag.

Jaymal Singh Negi, brother of Gabbar Singh Negi - one of the men stranded for 12 days, said that his brother informed him about the trapped men engaging in yoga and exercises inside the tunnel. He also advised his brother to continue these activities.

Union Minister General VK Singh (Retd) on Thursday reached the Silkyara tunnel site, where the rescue operation is underway to bring out the trapped workers.
"NDRF is ready for all the consequences that we may have to face. Special equipment is also ready so that we can take the trapped workers out as early as possible. Our teams are ready, and I hope we will be able to rescue the workers soon," NDRF DG Atul Karwal told ANI.
