A letter addressed to Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer said, "In view of the ongoing rainy season in the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) section of N. F. Railway, services of few joy ride trains will remain cancelled."
"It rained heavily on July 8-9...The rain that happens in the mountains comes down to the plains, and as a result, many of our tracks got submerged. So as a precautionary measure, we had to stop the train service,” said General Manager of Northern Railways Shobhan Chaudhuri.

West Japan Railway Co. claims that services were stopped starting at about 8:30 am. It took until 1 pm for the section between Hiroshima and Kokura, which is a stop away from Hakata, to start running again.
