West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday accused the Centre of not releasing funds for the state after Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the Union Budget 2026-27.
The Centre has allocated Rs 1.4 lakh crores for states for the Financial Year 2026-27 as Finance Commission grants, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Sunday.
In a post on X, Stalin listed a series of demands, asking whether the Budget would include a Rs 3,548 crore education fund to support the studies of students who have been detained and not promoted, funding for Coimbatore and Madurai Metro Rail projects, Rs 3,112 crore for the Jal Jeevan
The Minister also praised the Centre's efforts in providing significant funds to Uttar Pradesh under the 'Special Assistance to States' scheme, saying that the state is utilising these funds effectively.
Ahead of the Union Budget 2026, West Bengal Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya accused the Centre of not releasing the state's dues, saying the state government was fulfilling its responsibilities but was not receiving what it was entitled to.
