Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated President Droupadi Murmu on being conferred the highest civilian award of Suriname - Grand Order of the Chain of the Yellow Star.
In her address at the cultural festival, President Murmu stated that there are many similarities between India and Suriname. She said that the diversity of the people of Suriname has won her heart.
President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to pay tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Suriname today, accompanied by Surinamese President Chan Santokhi. The President will also attend cultural programs to mark 150 years of the arrival of Indians to Suriname.
