Speaking to ANI about the South Bastar naxal encounter, IG Bastar P Sundarraj said, "Bodies of 12 Naxalites including 5 women, were recovered after the encounter that took place at 9 pm, between security forces and Naxalites on January 16."
According to Bastar Inspector General (IG) Sundarraj P, the jawans were returning from a joint operation of Dantewada, Narayanpur and Bijapur police when the blast occurred.

The search for a Bijapur-based journalist, who had been missing since January 1, ended tragically when his body was found in a septic tank on the premises of a private contractor in the district on Friday, police said.
Inspector General (IG) Bastar, P Sundarraj said, "An encounter is ongoing between DRG (District Reserve Guard) and naxals in southern Sukma. An exchange of fire has been underway since morning. The search operation is underway."
Earlier in the day, five Naxalites were killed, and a large cache of weapons was recovered during an ongoing exchange of fire between security forces and Naxals in the Abujhmadh jungle on the Kanker-Narayanpur border in Chhattisgarh.
Two Jawans were injured following the exchange of firing between the Naxals in the jungle of Abujhmadh at Kanker Narayanpur Border, Kanker Superintendent of Police (SP) Indira Kalyan Elesela said on Saturday.
The encounter, which is still underway, has resulted in the recovery of the bodies of all seven deceased Naxals, along with a large cache of weapons like the AK 47 and SLR.
