Only one week ago, Hockey India had announced Rs two lakh each to the players and one lakh each for support staff of the Indian junior men's team who won the prestigious 10th Sultan of Johor Cup.
The Indian Junior Men's Hockey team won the Sultan of Johor Cup on Saturday, defeating Australia. This is India's third overall title triumph and their first since 2014. India won the summit clash via shootout (5-4) after the game was tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
The last time the India Colts won the tournament was in 2014 and earlier in 2013. In the previous two editions held in 2019 and 2018, India had lost the final to Great Britain and had finished third in 2017.
Poovanna CB (7'), Amandeep (50'), Araijeet Singh Hundal (53') and Sharda Nand Tiwari (56', 58') were the scorers for India, while Great Britain's Max Anderson (1', 40'), Harrison Stone (42') and Jami Golden (54', 56') were on target
The Indian colts will also face Australia, Japan, South Africa, and defending Champions Great Britain in this year's edition which is set to take place after three years.
