ADM Rajkot S J Khachar, who was there at the Rajkot bus stand to receive the evacuees, said that 156 people, who have reached earlier in Agemdabad from Sudan, have reached Rajkot and will be sent to their houses and earlier two senior citizens were sent back to their homes by ambulance.
An Indian Air Force C-130J aircraft with 40 passengers onboard took off from Jeddah on Sunday for New Delhi as 'Operation Kaveri' progresses further to evacuate stranded Indians from battle-torn Sudan.
"We should appreciate the operation Kaveri which has been started by the Government of India to evacuate Indians from the conflict-torn state of Sudan. I also congratulate the Air Force officers in this regard for Special Operations in Sudan," said MP Arora.
The Indian evacuees shouted slogans like "Bharat Mata ki jai," and "Vande Mataram" and also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for rescuing them from Sudau under Operation Kaveri after deboarding the flight.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said that 413 people have died in the current Sudan conflict, while the UN children's agency said children are paying a high price, with at least nine reportedly killed in the fighting and more than 50 badly injured.
