In the ongoing debate on the alleged 'imposition of languages' in southern states, a PIL was filed in the Supreme Court seeking implementing of the three-language formula, proposed by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal.
The all-party meeting presided over by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin passed a resolution requesting PM Modi to give assurance in the parliament that if delimitation is done, it should be based on the 1971 population census.
In an all-party meeting led by CM M K Stalin, Tamil Nadu parties unanimously passed a resolution requesting PM Modi's assurance that any future delimitation will be based on the 1971 population census for the next 30 years, opposing changes that reduce southern states' representation.
CM Stalin also announced that a Joint Action Committee would be formed representing Southern States, with MPs, to carry forward these demands and protests and create awareness about the importance of this issue.
DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai criticizes the BJP's handling of the delimitation issue, claiming it is aimed at undermining southern states' political leverage. He also criticizes the BJP for boycotting the all-party meeting and demanding written assurance from the Prime Minister.
This move is a direct response to the Centre's plans for constituency delimitation on a 'pro-rata' basis, which Stalin believes will unfairly limit southern states' representation.
DMK MP Tiruchi Siva on Saturday claimed that the delimitation process will disadvantage southern states, adding that his party has raised its voice on the issue at the right time.
Leaders from southern states have strongly opposed the centre's plan for constituency delimitation and implementation of the three-language policy under New Education Policy 2020, alleging the centre of attacking their "existence."
