Indian Air Force (IAF) evacuated over 1700 persons and the rescue operations will continue in flood-affected areas of Sikkim, the IAF officials said on Saturday.
According to senior officials, searches are underway at around 50 locations, including Kolkata, Gangtok, Siliguri, and other locations since last evening. A senior superintendent of Passport Seva Laghu Kendras (PSLK) in Siliguri, along with a middleman, has been apprehended.
Two National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)-led multi-agency expeditions to two high-risk glacial lakes South Lhonak and Shako Cho in Sikkim have installed two solar-powered, twin-camera, Automated Weather Stations (AWS), the NDMA said on Thursday.
