Addressing a press conference in Shimla, Deputy CM Agnihotri said, "Shimla Ropeway would be the biggest project in India and the second biggest in the world after Bolivia."
A 'Letter of Award' for the development of the passenger ropeway project was handed over to Sky Himalayas Ropeways Private Ltd by Ropeways and Rapid Transport System Development Corporation at Dharamsala, an official statement said on Friday.
Hill state Himachal Pradesh will soon have the world's second largest aerial ropeway urban transport system, said Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri.
Former Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj congratulated the Shimla people on the New Development bank's nod to fund the ropeway project. He urged the present dispensation to prepare the DPR so that the project meets the deadline.
Mukesh Agnihotri asked RTDC to make efforts for developing at least one ropeway per district in the next five years for providing connectivity, employment generation as well as enhancing tourism potential.
