The development comes after Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the concerned authorities not to pursue the review petition moved against Justice Qazi Faez Isa.
The bill is aimed at curtailing the powers of the chief justice -- including the suo motu and the formation of benches. The PTI has strongly condemned the move to pass the legislation and said it is an "attack on the judiciary".
The development came after a two-hour-long National Security Committee (NSC) meeting comprising the country's top civil and military leadership -- with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the chair, a statement from the PM's Office said.
