This comes after PM Shehbaz Sharif advised Pakistan's President to dissolve the National Assembly today. The Pakistan government will enter a caretaker setup today, paving the way for polls to be held within the next 90 days.
Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad on Tuesday, PM Shehbaz said, “After completing our [government’s] term tomorrow, I will write and send [the advice] to the president to dissolve the assembly and then an interim government will take over.”
While the PM denied the finalisation of any names, Dawn, citing sources, has reported that the ruling coalition seems to have evolved a consensus on the name for the caretaker prime minister’s slot but is keeping their identity a secret, ostensibly to save the nominee from controversy.
Pakistan Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Sunday revealed that former finance minister Hafeez Shaikh is also shortlisted for the post of Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister, Pakistan-based Geo News reported.
“Nawaz Sharif will serve the people of Pakistan as Prime Minister for another term if voted to power. He considers the whole of Pakistan as his family and in the past, selflessly served the people,” he said.
