The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs department has seized a total of 2,216.07 grams of gold worth Rs 97.5 lakh at Kochi airport in two instances, said an official statement on Tuesday.
The Customs department has seized gold and foreign currency worth crores from different passengers at the Mumbai airport, the officials said on Friday.
The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) customs department seized gold 1,062 grams of gold worth Rs 54 lakh from two female passengers at the Kochi airport on Thursday.
In a joint operation, the Indian Coast Guard alongwith the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Chennai, seized a gold consignment of 17.74 Kg worth approximately Rs 10.5 crore from Mandapam Seashore in Tamil Nadu while the consignment was being smuggled from Sri Lanka by Sea route.
"During the examination of the said passenger, one white coloured stripe, suspected to be gold in a compound form totally weighing 281.88 grams concealed in the specially stitched cavity of jeans pants worn by the passenger were recovered and seized," the customs department added.
Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs Department at Kochi airport on Sunday seized 1069.63 grams of gold worth Rs 45 lakhs from a passenger coming from Doha.
In a joint operation with the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), the Special Intelligence and Investigation Branch (SIIB) of Kochi Customs seized a total of 3,261 gm of gold worth Rs 1.28 crore in three instances at Kochi airport on Wednesday.
