Customs officials on Tuesday seized gold weighing 554.600 grammes from a passenger at Cochin International Airport. The passenger was concealing the gold inside his rectum, the officials said.
"The seized gold weighs approximately 1165 grams and 705 milligrams, with an estimated value of Rs 70,44,325. The disposal of seized gold has been done as per procedure, the BSF release said.
The release said, "Acting on specific tip-off, vigilant troops 04 Bn BSF Meghalaya seized clothing item i.e, saree of worth Rs 13 lakh approx while being smuggled to Bangladesh from bordering area of East Khasi Hills on July 10, 2023."
A joint operation by a team of STF led by Deputy Inspector General of Police (STF) Partha Sarathi Mahanta and Kamrup district police launched an operation based on secret information and intercepted a vehicle at Sonapur area.

Based on secret information the police team of Jorabat police intercepted a truck going towards Meghalaya on Sunday morning in the Jorabat area and during the search, the team recovered 61 cattle heads from the vehicle.
