In a significant demonstration of preparedness and unity, the Indian Army, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Police, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, and Civil Administration jointly conducted a large-scale earthquake response mock drill in Along, West Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh.
Speaking to mediapersons, CM Dhami provided key updates on the situation, stating that at least 35 houses were damaged, 20 people sustained injuries, and 14 others are currently missing due to the disaster that struck Chamoli late Wednesday night.
According to information from the local police, around 10 people are feared trapped under debris caused by the sudden cloudburst. So far, two women and one child have been rescued in injured condition and have been rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
The BJP leader said that the natural calamity had left behind a trail of destruction, and the challenges for both citizens and authorities remained immense.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday said he is personally monitoring the situation following a cloudburst in Chamoli district that left at least 10 people missing and caused significant damage to houses in the region.
"Operation Hausal. On the night of 15-16 September, the sudden heavy flood in the Sonkhad, Dharmpur area affected the bus stand, market, and surrounding houses. The Mandi Police, in coordination with SDRF, immediately initiated relief and rescue operations," the Himachal police posted on X.
According to the district administration, the incident occurred in the Kuntri Lagafali ward of the Nandanagar region, where six residential structures were buried under debris following the cloudburst and intense rainfall.
Sources in the ministry told ANI that Punjab's non-participation in the scheme has left farmers dependent only on state-funded relief, which is limited in scope and unable to cover widespread losses caused by natural calamities.
On the said information, the rescue team from SDRF Corps Headquarters received information about 200 students being stranded on Tuesday morning and immediately rushed to the spot.
The Prime Minister and Home Minister assured the state of all possible assistance, emphasising that the Central Government stands firmly with Uttarakhand in this hour of crisis.
