In a tragic accident on Friday, three people lost their lives, while three others were injured when a car fell into the river near Arya Vihar Ashram between Senji and Ongi on Gangotri National Highway-108, Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.
"Late night at 3 am, a three-storey building suddenly collapsed in Barabanki's Fatehpur Kotwali area. There was a stir in the whole area due to the loud sound of the building falling. We received information about this from the local residents," said Barabanki SP.
Teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are engaged in the relief and rescue work, Barabanki Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar Singh said.
"The rescued individual had got trapped on the Badrinath highway while he was on a trek. He was injured while returning from the trek and was therefore unable to cross the obstructed road," said the official.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescued as many as sixty people trapped in their houses after heavy rainfall caused waterlogging and disrupted normal life in the state's Udham Singh Nagar, said officials on Wednesday.
The statement further added that JP Nadda expressed the Union government's commitment to offering substantial assistance to Himachal Pradesh in view of the unprecedented loss.
"Today is the 7th day of the search and rescue operation at Summer Hill area. So far, we have recovered 17 bodies, and we are searching for other three victims. Teams of SDRF, NDRF and Indian Army are present at the spot," Roop Sharan, an NDRF inspector said while speaking to ANI.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel on Saturday continued to conduct rescue and relief operations in Jakhna village, which was affected after a landslide struck Langa Road near Dehradun on Wednesday, an official said on Saturday.
The water level of River Pranmati has increased to a great extent following heavy rainfall in the state. The authorities have alerted the locals in the area to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents, said officials on Friday.
"Efforts are being made to make way for drainage of excessive rainwater with the help of JCB. SDRF is constantly trying to help the affected people," officials said.
