Visuals from the site showed villagers ransacking Maity's house and beating him up with slippers as protests continued in the Bermajur area of Sandeshkhali where angry villagers clashed with the police on Friday.
West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Sukanta Majumdar announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public rally in Arambagh and Krishnanagar in the state on March 1 and 2 respectively.
