Officials said that the machine was being used in the construction of Phase III of the Samruddhi Express Highway late at night. Initial reports confirmed the death of 14 workers while three others were injured.

According to police, a total of 33 people were travelling in the bus which was on its way to Pune. The bus owner, Virendra Darna, also said that the tyre burst caused the accident.
In a statement, Thackeray said, "The Buldhana accident should open the government's eyes as more than 300 people have lost their lives on the expressway since it was opened last year. The government has not made any plan to prevent accidents."
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his Deputy Devendra Fadnavis have reached the accident site on the Samruddhi Mahamarg expressway where they are currently inspecting the accident site. They will meet with the injured in hospital.
A total of 25 people, including three children died while eight people sustained injuries after a bus travelling from Maharashtra's Yavatmal to Pune caught fire in Buldhana on the Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway.
